Kildare County Council Announces the Return of Picnic in the Park for 2026
Kildare County Council and Maynooth Community Council are pleased to announce the return of ‘Picnic in the Park’, which will take place at Harbour Field, Maynooth on Sunday, 21 June from 2pm -5pm.
The theme of this free family friendly event is ‘climate change and sustainability’. There will be a wide range of performers, workshops, food vendors and information stalls offering advice on renewable energy options, retrofitting, composting, active travel and biodiversity.
Younger attendees can enjoy activities such as seed planting, bird feeder workshop and face painting while the adults can enjoy comedy, poetry, a furniture restoration demonstration or even have their caricature drawn.
The Maynooth DZ Climate Champion Awards will also be announced on the day. These awards acknowledge and celebrate the communities, businesses, farmers and schools who are taking steps to recycle, reuse, reduce energy, and protect and nourish the natural environment.
This year’s event will also welcome the ‘Food Cloud Kitchen’, an award-winning Irish initiative backed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Food Cloud Kitchen is a prime example of circular economy in practice as it transforms perfectly edible surplus food into delicious, nutritious meals.
In line with sustainable festivals guidelines, a water refill station will be available on site and attendees are encouraged to bring reusable bottles. AccessoLoo will be provided for those with additional needs, along with an ISL Interpreter, tandem bike instructors and a dog spending area for assistance/therapy dogs.
Attendees are encouraged to leave the car at home and use public transport or walk or cycle to the event. Funded through the Local Property Tax, ‘Picnic in the Park’ is a free event and promises to be a fun-filled day for all ages.
