Kildare County Council Signs Contract for First Phase of Cherry Avenue Park

16 October 2026: Kildare County Council has appointed Donnelly Civil Engineering to construct the first phase of Cherry Avenue Park in Kildare Town, marking an important step towards delivering a new public amenity for the town and surrounding area.
The 17-acre park site is located on Dublin Road in Kildare Town. The land formerly formed part of the National Stud before the construction of the M7 motorway.
Initial works will include grading the site to create the levels required for the park’s different features. The existing entrance will be upgraded to provide pedestrian and cycle access, and a new car park will be constructed. Circulation paths, seating and landscaping will also be installed throughout the site.
The initial masterplan for Cherry Avenue Park was prepared by M-CO.
Murray & Associates Landscape Architects completed the detailed design for the first phase and will oversee the construction works with Kildare County Council. Other members of the design team include Donnachadh O’Brien & Associates (Civil and Structural Engineer and Project Supervisor Design Process) and Levins Associates (Quantity Surveyors). The initial phase of works is scheduled for completion in 2028.
Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Councillor Tim Durkan, said: “The delivery of this park will provide an important amenity for Kildare Town and the surrounding areas. As the park develops, it will also support future recreational provision for the community.”
Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive, Kildare County Council said: “Cherry Avenue Park demonstrates how Kildare County Council is delivering recreational and amenity infrastructure across the county. Parks and open spaces give people important places to exercise and socialise, while also supporting green infrastructure, biodiversity and climate action. We look forward to completing this initial phase with our design partners, Murray & Associates Landscape Architects, and Donnelly Civil Engineering.”
Rory Donnelly, Project Director Donnelly Civil Engineering, said: “Donnelly Civil Engineering is delighted to partner with Kildare County Council to construct the first phase of Cherry Avenue Park. We look forward to delivering a high-quality park for the people of Kildare Town to enjoy.”
