Potential disruption to Council operations — Wednesday, 14 October 2026
The Fórsa and SIPTU trade unions have confirmed a full 24-hour strike on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. This is a national dispute involving all 31 local authorities and the wider public sector.
Kildare County Council has enacted its Business Continuity Plan to support the continued delivery of essential services and minimise disruption. On Wednesday, 14 October, all Council buildings will be closed to the public. MERITS will remain open for business tenants but will not be open to the general public. Access to other services may be limited, services may operate at reduced capacity, and delays and changes to normal arrangements should be expected.
Fire services will not be affected by this industrial action. The Housing Department will be unavailable for homelessness presentations on Wednesday, 14 October. The Homeless Freephone service will remain operational from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on 1800 804 307.
Customers are encouraged to use online services and email channels where available.
Members of the public should check the Council website and official social media channels for service updates before travelling. Updates will be published as soon as further information is confirmed.
Kildare County Council regrets any inconvenience and thanks the public for its patience and understanding.
